How do I use my downloaded ZIP file?

If you’ve purchased a digital decoration download and followed the proper download instructions, there should be a ZIP file sitting in your downloads folder – unless you’ve downloaded it somewhere else on your computer, like your desktop.

(If you already know how to use a ZIP file, skip down to the bottom section titled Common Problems.)

Identifying Your Downloaded File

Depending on whether you are using a Mac or a PC, the ZIP file should look like the following…

ZIP File Icon for Mac Computers ZIP File Icon for Windows Computers

If you’ve downloaded the file to a phone or tablet, the icon may look different depending on the device you are using. Be sure to check your device’s recent downloads folder to locate the file.

What you’ve downloaded is a bundled ZIP file that contains all of your digital decorations and you will need to unbundle (or unzip, or uncompress) the file to access all of your digital decorations.

Using a Mac

On a Mac, just double-click on the file and a new folder will appear that contains all of your digital decorations. You can then move those files to a USB Drive, SD Card or directly to another device. Or, if you plan to run your digital downloads directly from your computer, then drag the files to wherever you would like to store them.

Using a PC

On a PC, you will need to right-click the folder and then choose uncompress or unzip from the drop-down menu list of options. A new folder will appear that contains all of your digital decorations. You can then move those files to your USB Drive or SD Card for easy access! Or, if you plan to run your digital downloads directly from your computer, then drag the files to wherever you would like to store them. (We also recommend keeping a back-up for safety).

Using a Phone or Tablet

There’s a very good chance that you’re going to have to find an app to unzip the file you just downloaded. Unfortunately, most phones and tablets don’t have this type of software pre-installed, but there are a ton of app options (both free and paid) to choose from.

Common Problems

If you get an error message while attempting to open your file, it may be because of the following;

  1. The ZIP file may not have finished downloading
    1. Cause: These are big files. (In some instances a few Gigabytes of data!) This means it can take a while to download a single ZIP file and there is a chance that the download may not have completed and the file on your computer isn’t finished.
    2. Solution: We recommend confirming that you are using a strong internet connection and then try to re-download the file.
  2. The ZIP file may have become corrupted during download
    1. Cause: Because a full download can take up to a few hours to complete, if there are any interruptions or stalls in the process this can affect the integrity of the file.
    2. Solution: We recommend confirming that you are using a strong internet connection and then try to re-download the file.
  3. Your computer may not have enough resources
    1. Cause: Uncompressing a ZIP file takes both memory and processing power. If you are running a lot of other programs or using an older computer, you may encounter issues due to available RAM or processing power.
    2. Solution: We recommend shutting down as many unnecessary programs as possible and then retrying to uncompress the ZIP file.
